Home Page with both posts & home page template

I would like to add the Home Page template to Home Page. Seems redundant, I know. I understand that this theme is meant to have a static home page, and a different blog page. Yet, I would like to have my home landing page display post and have the Home Page template with the slider and category features.

Is it possible to assign the Home Page template to a custom url link?

I’ve played it quite a bit but my issue is that the this theme’s landing page is a ‘custom url link’ with a post page with side bar template. It does not have the Home Page template, therefore does not show the slider and feature categories. Being that the Home Page is a custom URL link, there is no way to assign a template with the WordPress dashboard because it’s not a page. I can create a Home page and assign the home page template, but then I cannot have posts. It’s a conundrum.

I get that I can have a static home page, and then a blog page, but my preference is for my readers to land on my most recent posts, but also see the feature categories they can choose to from there.

If you tell me it’s not possible, I’ll adapt.
